FLOWER PIANO

Flower Piano will again transform the San Francisco Botanical Garden in Golden gate Park into the City’s own alfresco concert hall in September where everyone is invited to play and listen. Participants are invited to explore the Botanical Garden’s global living plant collections as they seek out the 12 pianos spread out across the 55-acre living museum. At each of the pianos, there will be scheduled professional and community partner performances as well as ample open play time for anyone to sit down and play — reflecting a range of genres, ages and cultures. Spontaneous community music-making around the pianos during unscheduled times are often cited as favorite moments among Flower Piano attendees. Complete program and ticket links can be found at sfbg.org/flowerpiano.

Torn Lilacs is the story of two ordinary people fighting and struggling to stay alive, hunted like animals because of their birth into the Jewish faith. But it’s a hopeful and uplifting story of courage, faith and above all, love. Torn Lilacs won the independent press award, the international book award, the Eric Hoffer Award and the San Francisco Book Festival Award. Thursday. Aug. 24, 3-4:30 p.m.

PAR – OUTSIDE LANDS CONCERT SERIES TOWN HALL MEETING

A proposal to add an additional weekend to the Outside Lands concert series starting in 2024 is now pending before the SF Board of Supervisors. The issue will be on the Board’s Sept. 6, calendar. District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan asked SF Recreation and Park Department officials and the concert promoters, Another Planet Entertainment, to conduct outreach in the communities most affected by the concerts. In response, the Planning Association for the Richmond (PAR) will hold a town hall meeting where neighbors can learn more about the proposal, and share their concerns, observations and ideas. This is an opportunity to weigh in before a decision is made about the proposal. PAR has requested that the concert promoters and Rec. and Park officials join us at the town hall prepared to share detailed information about the proposed second weekend, including maps and specifics about the terms of the permit. Issues to discuss include street closures, hours of the concerts, specifics of parking restrictions, after-event transportation for attendees, adequacy of police services post event in residential areas, adequacy of current methods intended to mitigate concert impacts on surrounding neighborhoods, traffic congestion, trash and noise. Golden Gate Park Senior Center, 6101 Fulton St. (at 37th Avenue), Aug. 9, 6:30 p.m.
