Clever Halloween costumes—particularly of the DIY variety—are something of a speciality of ours here at Country Living. Over the years, we’ve concocted ideas for everything from Barbie-inspired outfits to Yellowstone Halloween costumes, but it recently came to our attention that we had yet to honor an obvious category: country music! Well, you best believe we quickly got to work on remedying that. Now, we’re thrilled to present a few ingenious ideas for Halloween costumes inspired by classic country songs.
From Dolly Parton to Darius Rucker, these country music Halloween costumes for females and males (and couples!) hit all the right notes. They’re also easily suited for all levels of DIY enthusiasts. Our country singer costume ideas run the gamut from options that only require ordering a T-shirt to pieces that are a bit more involved and will need the use of a hot glue gun and a copious amount of crystals. Still, whatever your taste in country music may be, there’s guaranteed to be a chart-topper here that will get your toes tappin’—and have you more than ready for a 90s country themed party. So go forth and get dressed up! And know that if you’re not finding something you love here, we’ve also got plenty of easy DIY Halloween costumes for women and crafty costume ideas for men as well.

THE SONG: "Chattahoochee" by Alan Jackson
THE COSTUME: For the skiier (aka Alan himself!), don ripped jeans, a vintage-looking life vest, cowboy hat, boots, and a slalom ski, which you can find on eBay. If desired, pair with a burger and a grape sno-cone. For the “pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight,” empty and rinse out six beer cans (any brand will do), then hot-glue cans in a pyramid shape to a solid-colored t-shirt. Cut out a moon shape from light-blue glitter cardstock, then secure to a headband with hot glue. Embellish the base with assorted metallic stars.
THE SONG: "Jolene" by Dolly Parton
THE COSTUME: This outfit is going to be as popular as it is easy! For those of us without flaming locks of auburn hair, search for an auburn-red wig. Next, download and print out this name tag that says “Hello My Name Is Jolene” and attach it to a plain shirt. Finish the look with your best pair of jeans and cowgirl boots.

THE SONG: "All My Ex's Live in Texas" by George Strait
THE COSTUME: To bring this ditty to life, we procured a few small town T-shirts from Hometown Apparel and roped in a few friends who were game for an easy group costume. Add some jeans and a cowboy hat from your own closets and you’ll be good to go! (You can also make your own outfits using plain T-shirts and iron-on letters.)

THE SONG: "Something Like That" by Tim McGraw
THE COSTUME: The chorus pretty much makes this couples costume! One partner will want to stain a white T-shirt with a bit of BBQ sauce, the other will need a mini skirt and red lipstick. (Suntan lines: optional!) Then, prepare to pack on the PDA all night.

THE SONG: "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band
THE COSTUME: This tongue-in-cheek riff will be an especially easy costume to pull off for any University of Georgia fans. (Go Dawgs!) All you need is a Georgia sweatshirt or T-shirt, some devil accessories, and a toy violin—excuse us, fiddle—spray-painted gold.

THE SONG: "Ring of Fire" by Jonny Cash
THE COSTUME: Purchase a hula hoop and red, orange, and yellow tule. Cut several strips of each that are roughly one foot long. Tie the strips around the hoop in a pattern of red, orange, yellow, orange, red until the hoop looks full. (You can trim any ends that look too long!) Wear a red dress to match your ring. If a partner wants to dress up as Johnny Cash, they should sport a black suit, shirt, and shoes. Guitar and sunglasses optional!

THE SONG: "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell
THE COSTUME: Start with a western shirt and white cowboy hat. Embellish clothing items as desired—the more glitz, the better!—with acrylic gemstones in assorted shapes applied to the hat and shirt with hot glue. Pair with jeans, boots, and a gemstone-embellished “belt buckle” cut out of cardboard.

THE SONG: "Wagon Wheel" by Darius Rucker
THE COSTUME: Sift through your local thrift store for a small decorative wheel or purchase one online. String some suede cord through the spokes to make a necklace. (We suggest doubling up the cord to help hold the weight.) Then, don your best country duds and finish with cowboy boots!

THE SONG: Anything from Taylor Swift's Eras Tour setlist
THE COSTUME: Print a screenshot of the infamous ticketing waiting screen on a 18" x 24" foam board at a local printer or UPS store. Add pink grosgrain ribbon and wear it around your neck like a necklace. Pair with your favorite Eras-inspired look and a few tear-shaped rhinestones on your cheek.
